This is Anna. She is currently the only goat milking at the moment, which makes one of our other goats jealous, as she just stopped milking. After I finish cleaning up the girls mess from the night before, I start the milking process. Anna gets the big pink bucket in her crate letting her know that it is time to be milked. She automatically goes from the food bowl to the crate without skipping a beat (there's more food in the bucket). Once she is eating, she stands in position to be milked and her job is done. My first step is to make sure the milking machine is working. Second, I sanitize my hands and lightly massage her nipples to prep for milking, I get to have so much fun. Third, I gently squirt the milk out to make sure everything is working on her end and I usually squirt it all over myself. Fourth, I attach the pump and start the machine. Once the machine starts, I just pet her and tell her thank you for her hard work and milk. After the machine does its part, I squeeze one side of her breast to release the last of the milk, followed by unhooking the machine to her. At this point she's not too happy knowing that the pink bucket will be removed from her presence, however, she does get one extra scoop of food in her bowl to thank her again for her wonderful milk. I put everything away when I'm done. Milking is the last part of the barn job, which starts my favorite part, cuddling and playing with the goats before I end my work day.
